By building the fauna passage, the fishermen in Lake Mälaren and Svartån will be able to swim up to Åkesta outside Västerås.
According to Susanna Hansen, who is the water coordinator, it will benefit the fishermen.
- Today, the fishermen in Lake Mälaren and Svartån are partly isolated from each other.
Several species depend on hiking in streams for play and finding food.
Through the fauna passage, the fishermen will have access to very nice spawning environments, she explains.
Traffic impacts during construction
When the first stage of the fauna passage begins to be built, it will involve some traffic changes and noise.
The pedestrian and bicycle lane will be closed and redirected, but in the end it will be better passable when everything is ready.
The plan is for everything to be ready by the summer of 2023.
