When the daily asks him if the long-awaited announcement will be made in March, the Head of State replies, smiling: "I didn't tell you anything".

The candidates already in the running have been calling for Emmanuel Macron for several weeks to declare himself for the ballot on April 10 and 24, accusing him of campaigning without saying so and with the financial means of the State.

"I have ambitions for our country and for our Europe. And I still have the desire and the appetite to do so. The official campaign starts at the beginning of March. Today, we are in a pre-campaign phase", underlines the president to Ouest-France.

"It is completely legitimate, and even desirable, that all the candidates, with the greatest pluralism, can present themselves to the French men and women, develop their projects... But for who is in charge of the country, you have to be responsible and doing it at the right time," he added.

“I currently have very important choices to make for the Nation. We have an epidemic peak for a few more days, an eminently risky international situation... My duty is therefore to be fully concentrated on this task. The formalization of the choice that I would have to make will come at the necessary time", he concludes.
