“During the conversation, Magomedov again raised the problem of the lack of a gym in this detention center,” said one of the members of the commission.

The human rights activist recalled that in Lefortovo the area of the cells does not exceed 8 square meters, while they contain two prisoners, there are two beds, a table, a bench and a bathroom.

“There is no opportunity even to do elementary exercises there, in the walking yards there are no sports equipment, even the simplest ones, for example, a horizontal bar, but people sit there for years before the verdict is passed,” the human rights activist noted.

He also recalled that the regulations oblige the pre-trial detention center to provide the opportunity to play sports only for minors.

“Earlier, the leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service promised to revise this norm and provide adults with the opportunity to play sports, it was even about active sports such as football, but so far the internal regulations have not been revised,” the RT interlocutor noted, adding that Magomedov, as and other inmates have repeatedly asked the PMC to initiate a rule amendment that would allow showers more than once a week.

Ziyavudin Magomedov, co-owner of the Summa group of companies, and his brother Magomed were arrested on March 31, 2018.

On May 11, 2018, the Magomedovs were charged with organizing a criminal community, fraud and embezzlement.

Earlier, RT wrote about the plans of the Federal Penitentiary Service to provide the opportunity to play sports in a pre-trial detention center.
