Näsudden's wind farm is Gotland's largest wind farm and the new plants would have four times higher production capacity from renewable electricity.

Vattenfall writes in a press release that they plan for half as many wind turbines on the site compared to today.

- We are extremely happy to be able to submit our application to the County Administrative Board after many years of extensive work with a solid basis.

The project area has many challenges that have allowed us to find new creative solutions to enable coexistence on the site.

In addition, we will apply for demand-controlled obstacle lighting that would reduce the light impact from the plants in operation, says Elin Davidsson, project manager at Vattenfall Vindkraft in a press release.

The application is about replacing the 19 wind turbines that currently stand on the site to set up eight new ones instead.

It is estimated that this will lead to a quadrupling of production capacity, which corresponds to about one-fifth of Gotland's current electricity consumption.
