Not least the healthcare staff have longed for the pandemic to be over and to avoid restrictions.

At the same time, the pressure on healthcare in Östergötland will continue to be high.

- The most important lesson we have learned is that our competence is as invaluable as we are constantly talking about.

The lack of competence in healthcare has really been highlighted during the pandemic, says Emma Klingvall.

There are over 13,000 licensed nurses in Sweden who have left the profession.

- And this is what we must counteract together with the employer, so that we can keep everyone new and so that they can specialize.

"Care queues have increased"

A large part of the shortage of care places is due to the fact that there are not enough licensed midwives and nurses, according to Emma Klingvall.

- So the care queues have increased even more.

We have not been able to conduct the usual care because all focus has been on the covid patients.

There are also improvements that have taken place during the pandemic, she says, such as the realization of the importance of rapid decision-making processes and rapid changes in the business.

- And we, the care staff are flexible and are good at it.

But the organization has proved sluggish, the long-term changes are long overdue.
