It was in a café in the 5th arrondissement of Lyon that Fabrice gave us an appointment.
In great shape, all smiles, with a beautiful medal hanging from his shirt: that of the city of Lyon.
The former homeless man was decorated on Wednesday, following his act of bravery.
Last November, the man had saved a second-hand goods dealer working in the Vieux-Lyon district from a fire.
A month later, he confided having accepted this medal for his parents: “I think that, if they were still alive, they would be proud.

An apartment and a job
Since then, Fabrice's life has changed radically.
Now he lives in an apartment but has had to learn to acclimatize after spending years on the streets.
"It's really complicated," he admits.
Not used to being in a closed room.
Fabrice was offered a job.
In a few days, he will join a company selling wine, in which he will be responsible for preparing orders.
Which makes him happy.
“I can't wait to start to see people and have a social life,” he stamps his feet, now determined to “start a second story”.
