• Two car parks of the future for the new Bernabéu

Real

Madrid

, in association with

IFEMA

, is interested in managing the Palacio de Congresos de la Castellana, a building closed to the public since 2012 and pending reactivation.

As GRAN MADRID

has been able to confirm

, the white club and the consortium that runs the fairgrounds are studying a joint bid for the bid to win the iconic venue decorated on its front by

Joan Miró

.

The two institutions would oppose under the

joint venture

formula when the term for aspiring projects opens, which will probably be this year.

This business alliance has been working for months, waiting for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism to open the definitive path that allows the candidates to present their plans.

The Palace is state property, in the hands, specifically of Turespaña, the official tourism institute.

All those interested in taking over the exploitation of such a sweet venue are waiting impatiently for the process to start.

The sector wants it to be convened in the coming months, after the break due to the pandemic.

In fact, in the BOE of February 20, 2020, three weeks after the closure of the country due to the coronavirus, the opening of the Feasibility Study for the rehabilitation and subsequent operation of the Palacio de Congresos de Madrid under a contract regime was reported. works concession.

It was then announced that there would be "12 months for the drafting of the projects and then a period of 36 months for the execution of the work."

Feasibility study already carried out, as confirmed by Turespaña, where they trust to publish the tender for the concession of the work and subsequent exploitation at the end of this 2022.

An extension of the new Bernabéu

Real Madrid looks to the other side of the Castellana as it faces the final stretch of the reform works at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Palacio de Congresos, its use, would form part of the stadium's future activity plans, where football will be joined by a wide range of options, from restaurants, commerce or leisure to the organization of business events or congresses.

Madrid is also interested in the parking lot of the Palace, the only part that has continued to function since the facility closed in 2012.

These spaces would be added to the two car parks that the City Council has authorized the white club to build in the vicinity of the stadium, one precisely on the Castellana side, next to the Palace, and another in Padre Damián.

The 67 million euro project, advanced by this newspaper, will be the largest sustainable mobility center in the city, with the capacity to collect 1,667 vehicles.

And not only on match day, since they will be for public use.

“The city needs the Open Palace”, say sources from the City Council, with an important role in all this, since the license for the work will depend on the consistory directed by

José Luis Martínez-Almeida

.

Cibeles welcomes Real Madrid's alliance with IFEMA due to the fairground's guarantee and experience in organizing events and because it would mean crowning the reform work at the Bernabéu with a multipurpose space almost integrated into the stadium, whose inauguration will be expect in less than 12 months.

Enclosure closed

The Palacio de Congresos, built in 1970, was the data center for the 82 World Cup and hosted concerts by music stars such as Bruce Springsteen.

However, it fell into disgrace since an uncleared fire in 1995 destroyed 6,000 of its 40,000 square meters, leaving Pavilion B unused. Pavilion A remained, with greater capacity, where some concerts and meetings continued until the tragedy of the Madrid Arena in 2012, where five young people died at a Halloween party, pushed Mayor Bottle to close it down completely.

The reason: the doubts it generated in terms of security.

The study, according to

El País

, which was carried out by the Government before launching the BOE announcement in February 2020, calculated the necessary work to rehabilitate the Palace at 72 million euros, where 600,000 euros were allocated for the ceramic mural on the facade designed by Joan Miró and 6,800,000 euros for the square that bears his name, where the main entrance is located.

The concession for the company that was made with it would be for 40 years, with an annual canon of 1.25 million euros.

The details of the management divided between Madrid and IFEMA are yet to be fine-tuned, although Madrid's interest would focus mainly on match days.

Catering, center for group meetings, assistance to guests or the assembly of members, which is now held in the pavilions of IFEMA... The trade fair consortium, for its part, would like the Palace to have a venue in the heart of the city, a plus for many companies.

Another firm that showed its interest in obtaining the exploitation of the Castellana venue is the French GL Events, which controlled the Barcelona International Convention Center until the FIRA took over it at the end of last year.

The definitive use of the Palace does not collide with the Government's plans to install the World Tourism Organization Offices there.

They are different buildings within the complex.

According to Turespaña, these works to host the UNWTO will begin even earlier.
