Just over a week ago, it became public that the Kremlin had sent a letter to all OSCE countries, including Sweden.

In the letter, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov asks how the countries react to the previous agreement that no country should strengthen its security at the expense of another country.

Russia believes that NATO is violating it by welcoming Eastern European countries as new members.

The West has now provided a joint response to the letters, reports Swedish Radio Ekot.

- We stand up for the European security system, it is not negotiable.

We are very worried that the situation continues with large troops around Ukraine and Belarus, Linde tells the radio.

She emphasizes the importance of showing unity with the Kremlin.

- That signal, in this serious situation, we think is extremely important to give.

According to Linde, the message that the EU emphasizes in the answer is that the principles of international law and the agreements made after the fall of the Berlin Wall must be safeguarded.

She further states that the West is ready to discuss the security situation with Russia.

- But that it would reduce Russia's security that each country itself is allowed to choose a security policy line that description we do not support.
