On February 9, local time, Tokyo Electric Power Company confirmed that the internal investigation of the nuclear reactor container of Unit 1 of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, which began on the 8th, showed that there was a large amount of residue at the bottom of the stagnant water. It is currently impossible to judge whether it contains nuclear fuel debris.

Previously, an investigation conducted in March 2017 had found sandy deposits at the bottom of the container, and it was determined that countermeasures were necessary to remove the debris.
