A 35-year-old man was arrested on February 2, at nightfall, in Montpellier (Hérault), while he was driving a… steamroller.
The driver was intercepted by the gendarmes of the motorway platoon, warned by a motorist, who had crossed the individual, heading on his machine towards the roundabout of the A9 and the A709.
According to the gendarmes, the man, heavily alcoholic, is suspected of having stolen this construction machine a few minutes earlier.
He explained to the gendarmes of Hérault that because of his condition, he did not want to walk a few kilometers, and that he had decided to borrow this construction machine to go to the station of tram, in order to get on a train and go home to go to bed.
The steamroller, on which the man is accused of having made a short night's getaway, was seized and returned to his company.
