• La Salle Society investigates three new complaints of sexual abuse, two of them in Galicia

A few weeks ago, the writer Alejandro Palomas (Barcelona, 1967) denounced that a teacher of his at the La Salle school in Premià de Mar sexually abused him repeatedly when he was between 8 and 9 years old.

As a result of that complaint, the Investigating Court number 3 of Mataró has initiated an investigation to determine if these crimes have prescribed or not and for this reason has requested a report from the Prosecutor's Office.

Palomas, who is the National Prize for Children's and Youth Literature and the Nadal Prize in 2018, explained these abuses, which would have been committed between 1975 and 1977 by a religious and professor at La Salle de Premià de Mar, in several media outlets a few weeks and even questioned the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, on social networks, assuring that "I have just exposed my pain on a radio for all the boys and girls abused and raped by members of the Catholic Church since decades ago. We are Historical Memory buried alive. Give us your voice", in reference to investigating these sexual assaults.

Sánchez responded by highlighting the "courage" and "bravery" of the writer.

The court opened proceedings after Palomas's complaint and now the Prosecutor's Office must report on the prescription or not of the crimes.

For his part, La Salle has asked the judge to appear as an interested party in the complaint filed by Alejandro Palomas and for the judge to rule as to what, in addition to making himself available to the court to collaborate in the investigation.

Apart from the judicial process, and based on this public complaint made by the writer, La Salle opened an investigation of the professor, who is now 91 years old and lives in a residence belonging to the congregation in Cambrils (Tarragona).

La Salle also informed the Barcelona Court Prosecutor of the appearance of new victims of this former professor and brother of the congregation so that they can investigate, determine if crimes have been committed and establish responsibilities.

The lawyer Carles Monguilod, who directs the legal advice of La Salle in Spain, has transferred to the Prosecutor's Office the information published by El Periódico de Catalunya and eldiario.es with the testimony of seven former students of La Salle de Premià who report new abuses allegedly committed by brother Jesus in the 70's and 80's in that school.

However, the court does not have any other complaint at the moment.

On the other hand, the Department of Education indicated that they have learned this Thursday of "abuses committed in La Salle de Premià" and that is why they open "an investigation and if necessary we will take it to the Prosecutor's Office", as Minister Josep González-Cambray said .

In addition, he pointed out that "zero tolerance for any type of abuse" and recalled that a year ago the ministry launched the Support Unit for Students in Situations of Violence (USAV) in order to "accompany educational centers in each situation detected".

The purpose of the USAV is "to move towards prevention and maximum detection of undesirable situations as soon as possible" in order to act "in a structured and coordinated manner to carry out rapid investigations and make the best decisions" added the minister.

At the end of last January, the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (La Salle) activated its protocol against sexual abuse after learning of the case of the writer Alejandro Palomas, who denounced that at the age of 8 he was allegedly raped and suffered repeated abuse. by a professor at La Salle de Premià de Mar.
