The story of a Pakistani pregnant woman who believed the word of a faith healer that she could have a son and nailed it to her forehead is shockingly known.

On the 9th local time, foreign media including the BBC reported that a pregnant woman with a nail on her forehead came to a hospital in Peshawar, northeastern Pakistan.

The woman, who was hoping her fourth child to be a son during her pregnancy, was nailed to the forehead following religious advice from a faith healer, who she subsequently visited her hospital in excruciating pain.

"She was conscious when the woman arrived at the hospital, but she complained of great pain," said Dr. Heider Kahn, who also performed her nail removal surgery. He said it appears to have struck her nail.

A hospital official said the woman, with her three daughters, did this when she was informed by her husband that 'if it weren't for a fourth son,' she would leave.

Then, her neighbor told her woman about a faith healer, who gave her the painful advice: 'If you put a nail in her forehead, she can have a son'.

In South Asia, such as Pakistan, there is still a culture in which women have to pay for a dowry, and it is believed that this happened due to the perception that daughters would be more financially burdened than sons.

She said earlier that the woman had told her hospital that she had nailed herself, but later she was later changed by a faith healer herself, who changed her words that she had nailed it.

A faith healer is a person who practices 'faith therapy', which is the act of grafting religious beliefs into the treatment of diseases or physical abnormalities. He said that it is common to see religious healers.

After X-ray photos of the woman went viral online, local police launched an investigation into the faith healer.

Asan Police Chief Abbas said: "We have obtained CCTV footage from the hospital and she hopes to get in touch with this woman as soon as possible," she said.

This is a 'news pick'.
