Anibal Torres, 79, who served as justice minister, was sworn in at a brief ceremony in Lima.

The new 19-member cabinet is the fourth since leftist Peruvian President Pedro Castillo came to power on July 28.

His first six months in office were marked by internal struggles within the government and attacks from the radical right, which tried to draw the weapon of an impeachment procedure.

A week ago, Pedro Castillo appointed a third ministerial cabinet after the unexpected resignation of Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez over disagreements over promotions within the police force.

Deputy Hector Valer Pinto, who succeeded him, immediately found himself under fire from critics after several media revealed on Thursday February 3 that his wife and daughter had filed a complaint against him in 2016 for alleged domestic violence.

Three days later, Pedro Castillo announced a reshuffle, signifying the departure of Hector Valer Pinto.
