The state of New York in the United States has announced that it will eliminate the obligation to wear masks indoors from the 10th due to the decrease in the number of new infections and hospitalizations of the new coronavirus.

Although these movements can be seen in other states, the US CDC = Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend indoor masks as an infection control measure.

Governor Kathy Hochul of New York held a meeting on the 9th, saying that the policy that had previously required the wearing of masks at indoor facilities such as retail stores was "the number of newly infected people and hospitalized people is decreasing". It was revealed that the wearing obligation will be removed from the 10th.

In New York State, the number of infected people per day exceeded 90,000 on the 7th of last month, the highest number ever, but as of the 7th of this month, it has decreased significantly to more than 4000.

However, schools are still required to wear masks due to public transportation such as subways and buses, and low vaccination rates for children.

Although movements to remove the obligation to wear masks indoors have been seen in other states such as eastern Delaware and western California, the CDC continues to recommend wearing masks indoors as an infection control measure.
