Nearly 50,000 new confirmed cases in South Korea in a single day, the highest since the outbreak

South Korea's Central Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters reported on February 9, local time, that as of 0:00 that day, South Korea had added 49,567 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia in the past 24 hours, with a total of 1,131,248 confirmed cases.

This is the highest number of new confirmed cases in a single day in South Korea since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in South Korea on January 20, 2020.

In addition, there were 21 new deaths that day, bringing the total number of deaths to 6,943.

Since the Omicron variant became the main epidemic strain in South Korea, the number of confirmed cases in South Korea has increased exponentially.

South Korea's epidemic prevention department has shifted the focus of epidemic prevention to reducing severe cases and deaths since February 3.

The epidemic prevention department divides home treatment objects into centralized management groups over 60 years old and general management groups. Regular monitoring is only carried out for centralized management groups. When necessary, ordinary management groups can make remote consultations with community hospitals via video connection.

In addition, from the 9th, the government will allow people living with home-treated cases to go out to collect medicines and buy daily necessities.
