It was in February 2020 that a person collapsed outdoors with cardiac arrest in a central urban area in Norrbotten.

But no ambulance arrived.

The reason was that the last available ambulance had been sent to pick up an incubator without a patient.

When the ambulance staff pointed this out to SOS, they were asked to take the assignment with the incubator anyway.

Meanwhile, personnel from the rescue service performed CPR and defibrillation on the patient before the ambulance finally arrived.

The heart stopped

During the transport to the hospital, continued life-sustaining measures were implemented.

But in vain.

When the patient arrived at the hospital, his heart had stopped and he had died.

The care provider Region Norrbotten lex Maria now reports the incident to IVO, the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate.
