After two months of imprisonment, the former Minister of the Interior Claude Guéant left Wednesday February 9 the prison of Health, confirmed to AFP his lawyer, Philippe Bouchez El Ghozi.

The former tenant of Place Beauvau, left the Parisian prison shortly after 8:30 a.m. discreetly in a car with tinted windows, AFP journalists noted.

Claude Guéant, 77, was detained on December 13 for failing to pay the fine and damages he was ordered to pay in the cash bonus case on time. of the Ministry of the Interior.

He had benefited Monday from a measure of conditional release, within the framework of an adjustment of his sentence which he claimed.

Conviction in the polls case

In support of his request for a reduced sentence, his lawyer had argued that his client had "completely paid" his debt to the public treasury via loans granted by his relatives and that in prison, his "health situation ( could only deteriorate, given the triple pathology" from which he suffers.

Claude Guéant was sentenced on January 21 in his absence in another case, that of the Elysée polls.

He was sentenced to one year's imprisonment, including eight months, for favoritism, with a warrant of deferred committal.

On his release from prison, however, he will not return for this last sentence: he has indeed appealed, which suspends the application of this sanction until a second trial.
