According to media reports, soul singer Betty Davis is dead. Davis died on Wednesday at the age of 77, according to Rolling Stone magazine, citing a close friend of Davis.

According to this, the ex-wife of jazz legend Miles Davis died of natural causes.

Both "Rolling Stone" and the magazine "Vulture" - which gave the age of death as 76 - also quoted from a Facebook post by friend Constance Portis.

Portis described Davis - who released her music almost exclusively in the '60s and '70s - as a "multi-talented music influencer, pioneering rock star, singer, songwriter, arranger, model and fashion icon".

Davis never made it to full fame.

Her music with songs like "Get ready for Betty" had an impact on the music scene in New York in the late 1960s, among other places.
