A 42-year-old man was hospitalized in a psychiatric setting on Tuesday after a stabbing in a supermarket in Sarthe, reports the public prosecutor of Le Mans.
Monday afternoon, the suspect entered a shopping center in the town of Cherre-Au armed with a cutter, and attacked three customers.
“The aggression was the result of chance”
One of them had been injured in the throat and in the hand, before being taken care of by the emergency services in a state of shock.
The man, who had then tried to turn the weapon against him, was in absolute emergency when he was apprehended by the gendarmes and then transported to Le Mans hospital.
Presenting “deep sores in the throat”, he was operated on urgently.
According to the Le Mans prosecutor, the two other victims, a 9-year-old girl and her grandmother, were punched.
An investigation for attempted murder has been opened.
According to the first elements, “the attack on the victim resulted from chance”, indicates the prosecutor of Le Mans.
A hearing and a measure of psychiatric expertise will soon determine whether the suspect was "responsible for his actions".
