Commander of the US Central Command to WAM: The UAE defense system was effective in countering missile attacks

The Commander of the US Central Command, General Kenneth McKenzie, affirmed that the UAE defense system was effective in countering the missile attacks against the UAE, and that the United States will support the UAE to improve its defense system and enhance its capabilities.

General McKenzie said - in an interview with the Emirates News Agency "WAM" - that the United States is cooperating with the UAE and with regional and international partners to develop more effective solutions to stop attacks using drones.

He added: We are pleased to see the effective use of the THAAD anti-missile defense system in the UAE, and I know that this reassures everyone in the UAE and we will continue to cooperate with the UAE to develop more effective defense systems in the future.

General McKenzie - who oversees US forces in the Middle East - said we are working with our partners in the region and with defense technology development companies in the United States to develop solutions that will deal with drones before they are launched .. This system aims to detect drones pilot and deal with it before launch.

He stressed that his current visit to the UAE comes in the context of strengthening relations of cooperation and friendship with the UAE, and affirming its continued support from the United States of America.

"Although the attacks on the UAE are very worrying for the United States, the UAE has one of the most professional armies in the region, and I think the UAE is a very safe place," General McKenzie said.

The commander of the US Central Command confirmed that the United States was quick to support its friend, the UAE, saying: We sent the guided missile destroyer "USS Cole", which has great defensive capabilities against ballistic missiles, and the destroyer will patrol the waters of the Emirates, and work closely with the Emirati side to protect the state. We will also send to the UAE a squadron of advanced F-22 fighters a week from now, one of the best air superiority fighters in the world.

Regarding reports about the possibility of reclassifying the Houthis as a terrorist organization and the potential impact of such a move, General McKenzie said: I will leave this issue to American diplomats .. But I will say that the Houthis are acting recklessly and irresponsibly as they attack the UAE and continue to attack Saudi Arabia.

And regarding the killing of ISIS terrorist leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi during a US raid as part of counter-terrorism efforts in northwest Syria last Wednesday, McKenzie said: I think that getting rid of the ISIS leader makes it difficult for the organization to coordinate its activities around the world.

The US Central Command chief explained that the US wants to contain the ISIS threat "both locally and regionally" so that its security forces can "deal with them immediately rather than allowing them to coordinate their activities around the world, launching large and devastating attacks."

Regarding Afghanistan, General McKenzie stressed that the United States is closely monitoring the situation in that country, indicating the United States' concern about the possibility of ISIS-Khorasan and Al-Qaeda coordinating attacks against the United States and its allies.
