The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, is traveling to Kiev this afternoon to hold a meeting tomorrow with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dimitri Kuleba, to whom he intends to express the "solidarity" of Spain and its allies in the crisis unleashed by Russia.

It is, in the words of Albares, one more step in the strategy of "high intensity diplomacy" that the European partners are deploying to stop the tension and avoid an escalation of the conflict.

"We intend to join forces so that the dialogue succeeds," he stated.

Albares will then travel to the French city of Lyon to participate in a joint meeting of the EU Foreign and Health ministers, on the sidelines of which he will also hold a meeting with the head of French diplomacy, Jean-Yves Le Drian and, later, will travel to Brussels to meet with the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, and with the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU, Josep Borrell.

Despite the climate of high tension between Russia and the allies, Spanish diplomacy maintains that "the lines of dialogue remain open" and that all the actors in the conflict "accept that this is the moment for diplomacy".

Despite this, Russia maintains more than 120,000 soldiers deployed on the border with Ukraine and, for the time being, has not taken a step back from the pressure.

In this sense, I understand Moscow's denial of France's announcement, after the meeting between Macron and Putin, pointing to the Kremlin's alleged will not to activate new military maneuvers in the territory bordering Ukraine.

Albares insists on launching, despite the "volatile situation", a message of calm emphasizing that "war cannot be a solution, not even by hypothesis."

Diplomatic sources emphasize that this crisis must be resolved by the Europeans and affirm that all of them are convinced that "one cannot go back by accepting the existence of spheres of influence or states that see their sovereignty limited."

"This, and the very principles that support the EU, is what is at stake," they add.
