19 criminal cases

St. Petersburg media report on mass searches in the offices of road transport and housing and communal companies involved in clearing snow on the streets and cleaning icicles and ice from the roofs of houses.

The day before, these companies were checked by the prosecutor's office of St. Petersburg.

“The reason for the checks was the numerous appeals we received from local residents, as well as the results of media monitoring.

The inspections resulted in these criminal cases, in connection with which searches were carried out today in a number of companies.

During the searches, documentation and other information of interest to the investigation of criminal cases was seized, ”Ekaterina Dmitrieva, spokeswoman for the St. Petersburg prosecutor’s office, told RT.

According to the department, as a result of inspections, 19 criminal cases were initiated.

The supervisory authority says that this is not the final figure, in the course of the investigation, their number may increase.

We are talking about violations provided for by various articles of the Criminal Code: fraud;

provision of services that do not meet safety requirements;

theft.

Law enforcement agencies will also deal with a 55-year-old man who resisted a police officer during a search at the Relax management company.

According to local media, it was the director of the firm, and the issue of his arrest and charges of assault is now being decided.

The St. Petersburg prosecutor's office clarifies that the search in the office of Relax LLC was carried out in connection with a criminal case about the death of a janitor as a result of ice coming off the roof of house 94 on Bolshoy Sampsonievsky Prospekt on February 7.

“The district prosecutor’s office will organize a check on the timeliness of snow removal from the roof of the house, as well as the employer’s compliance with labor protection requirements, non-compliance with which could lead to the indicated consequences, since, presumably, the deceased was a janitor of the Relax management company serving the indicated apartment building,” RT was told in the supervisory agency.

"Real Crisis"

Petersburgers were outraged by the state of the streets throughout January.

Due to the snowy winter and the poor quality of cleaning, “it has become impossible to walk around the city,” local residents complain.

The situation on the roads is such that many have received serious injuries and now they hope to get compensation for the damage from the companies responsible for cleaning the city through the courts.

However, getting it is not so easy.

Petersburger Lyubov Kitchenko received a multiple fracture of her arm during the New Year holidays.

The woman fell on the street right in the center of St. Petersburg - on Vladimirsky Prospekt.

According to her, it was impossible to move along the sidewalks - they were covered with "mountains of ice."

“There has not been such a terrible quality of cleaning in the city for a long time.

I tried to move more carefully, but still slipped and fell on my hand.

I received a complex fracture of the elbow with fragments and displacement, they had an operation, a plate was inserted, ”said the interlocutor of RT.

Lyubov turned to the district prosecutor's office - because of the fracture, the woman could not go to work for a long time and lost part of her income.

However, it has not yet been possible to find those responsible - according to Kitchenko, each section of the street is run by different organizations, and the prosecutor's office still has not told her who is guilty of her injury.

“Victims can lose a lot of time if they do not immediately contact the prosecutor's office with a demand to conduct an inspection and find the person responsible for the area where they were injured.

Literally every meter of asphalt in the city is regulated and belongs to different responsible persons.

These can be commercial companies - shops and restaurants, to which the site is adjacent, and the administration, and management companies serving residential buildings, ”Lubov explained.

Now the woman is restoring the mobility of her arm and hopes that no more operations will be required.

Love continues to work remotely - the doctor advised her not to go outside until the snow and ice have melted.

“There is a conclusion from my rehabilitator, and it says in plain text that, due to “weather conditions and the state of city streets,” it is not recommended to leave the house,” Kitchenko emphasizes.

According to the St. Petersburg woman, the problem of snow removal is not solved in any way: “Literally today, on the way from the doctor, I almost fell on the infamous Bolshoy Sampsonievsky Prospekt, where the janitor died yesterday.

This is a real crisis, and it cannot be solved overnight, the city simply does not have the capacity for this.”

"I don't care about shoes"

Local residents are now trying to appear on the streets as little as possible, for fear of injury.

Petersburger Olga F. told RT that the sidewalks are not cleaned even in the popular tourist areas of the city.

“I live in the Central area and I think that he is one of the worst cleaning.

Either a block of ice will fall, because it's warming now, or you have to look under your feet all the time so as not to break them.

Virtually nothing is removed.

My husband has now gone on a business trip, supplied me with food, because it’s really better not to leave the house once again, ”says Olga.

The interlocutor of RT mentioned that, despite the situation on the streets, the city does not fundamentally use reagents to sprinkle slippery roads.

“I read an interview with [Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander] Beglov, where he says that they don’t treat roads with reagents so that people don’t spoil their shoes.

Yes, do not care about these shoes, if people break their legs and arms!

I don't understand why.

We don't even see snowplows.

I don't know when she goes out there - maybe at night.

But I didn’t see it,” the woman says.

Recall that on January 23, the governor of St. Petersburg announced the reform of the system of cleaning streets from snow and ice.

The cleaning process is planned to be brought under city control through the creation of "own infrastructure".

“This is the most important area of life support for the city, and the “patchwork quilt” of business cannot cope with the tasks and abuses the trust of the townspeople,” Beglov said.

The governor connected the critical situation with the cleaning and removal of snow in the northern capital with a number of problems.

“This is both sloppiness and a large number of management companies that should have janitors, their own equipment, and not conclude any additional contracts,” Beglov explained.
