French President Macron met with Ukrainian President Zelensky the day after their summit with Russian President Putin.

At a joint press conference, Macron said there was room for progress in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

[Macron/President of France: President Putin told me he had no plans to escalate tensions.

I think that's important.]

He was optimistic that he had received promises from both sides to respect the Minsk Peace Agreement to stop fighting in the Donbas region of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side is of the view that Russia must prove Putin's words with concrete measures.

[Zelensky/President of Ukraine: I generally do not believe in words.

The authenticity of all politicians is shown in their concrete steps.

In this case, sincerity is alleviating tension.]

A joint exercise between Russia and Belarus will be held from the 10th to the 20th.

Ukraine has announced a massive counter-fire drill in response to this.

In addition, six large Russian amphibious assault ships are entering the Black Sea adjacent to Ukraine for training reasons, so military tensions are not expected to be resolved easily.
