- The story of the Moroccan child Rayan Oram did not have a happy ending, and the miracle awaited by millions did not materialize by his coming out alive after falling into a narrow artesian well, about 45 centimeters in diameter and 32 meters deep, last Tuesday afternoon.

Five-year-old Ryan came out of the earth on Saturday night, after 5 days he spent alone, frightened and exhausted, to return to the earth after sowing the seed of humanity, solidarity and unity among millions of Moroccans and Arabs.

The story of the Moroccan child Rayan brought to mind other stories of children who fell into artesian wells - which are cylindrical pits that are dug in the ground to stimulate groundwater to exit automatically - in a number of countries in the world, and their recovery required hours and days of drilling and the employment of various rescue techniques and mechanisms, and it was the end of the stories Some of them are happy, while the bottom of the well was a cemetery, some of them did not survive.

Jessica McClure's rescue ended happily with her rescue after 60 hours of digging (websites)

Jessica.. 60 hours of searching

Jessica McClure Morales, an 18-month-old baby, fell into a well in her aunt's garden in Midland, Texas, on October 14, 1987.

It was impossible for any rescuer to descend into the well, which was 20 centimeters in diameter and 6.7 meters deep, so the rescuers worked to dig vertically parallel to the well, then reach it through a gap linking it to the site of its fall.

At eight in the evening on October 16, after 60 hours of digging, television networks published a picture of a paramedic carrying baby Jessica out of the well alive, after all that long without food or water.

At the time, millions of Americans followed the story of this little girl on various television channels with their hands on their hearts.

In a press interview she gave 30 years after her rescue, Jessica said that she had no memory of that incident except the traces it left on her body, and added, "God was on my side on that day... my life is a miracle."

From the operation to rescue the Spanish child Yulin (networking sites)

Spain's Yulin.. 13 days underground

In January 2019, the two-year-old Spanish child, Yulin Rossello, was playing in the playground of a member of his family, while his parents were eating nearby, before he fell into a well, which is a water drilling hole 25 centimeters in diameter and 110 in length. meters, in the town of Totalan in Malaga.

About 100 people participated in the difficult and complex rescue operation, which turned into an issue of public opinion in Spain and screens transmitted its details daily through various channels.

Rescuers faced difficulties in transporting heavy equipment on steep roads to the site of the accident, which is located in a mountainous and rugged terrain.

The country held its breath for days due to landslides that complicated the rescue operation.

Those responsible for the rescue operation were unable to find any evidence that the child was alive, as they were unable to insert the camera to the depth to which he fell, and the presence of a blockage in the well at a depth of 70 meters prevented food and water from being sent to him.

The elements of the Civil Guard carried out a rescue operation similar to the one carried out by the rescuers in the story of the Moroccan child Rayan, as a channel was dug parallel to the well that took time due to the hardness of the rocks, and then they dug a horizontal tunnel extending 4 meters to reach the level at which the child is believed to have fallen.

The end of this story, however, was not happy. After 13 days of digging, rescuers found Yulin dead, and an autopsy revealed that he died from the same fall.

Lama Saudi Arabia.. was recovered after 48 days

In January 2014, while the child Lama Al-Rouqi was playing with her sister while she was with her family on a picnic, she fell into a narrow deserted artesian well with a diameter of no more than 50 centimeters, and a depth of 114 meters.

The story of the little girl, Lama, topped the headlines of newspapers and social networking sites, and the Saudis called for her to leave safely.

Saudi Civil Defense officials said that a camera that was only about 30 meters away was inserted, but that there was no trace of the girl.

Two giant companies participated in the process of recovering the girl, as they dug a parallel well and then opened a tunnel leading to the site where the girl fell, and after 48 days of digging, the body of the girl was found stuck at a depth of 38 meters.

Hassan Al-Suri .. 55 hours of digging

In March 2021, the Syrian child Hassan Khader Al-Zaalan (10 years old) fell into an artesian well in the town of Kafr Rouhin, north of Idlib, Syria, when he was accompanied by his father, who works as a well-digger.

Efforts to dig him out through the well’s head were unsuccessful because of his fall position, as he was stuck between the wall of the well and the drill chisel at a depth of 21 meters with his head down, a situation that did not help him to grab the rescue rope or tie himself, and it was impossible to lower volunteers into the well because of the narrow opening.

The rescue teams proceeded to dig parallel to the well in order to reach the child, relying on heavy machinery and about 40 volunteers.

However, the end of this story was tragic, as the Syrian Civil Defense teams arrived for the child, about 55 hours after his fall, to find him dead.

Italian Alfredo.. A month under the earth

The six-year-old Italian child Alfredo Rambi was on a picnic with his family in 1981, when he asked his parents to go home alone, to fall into an artesian well about 30 centimeters wide and 80 meters deep.

Rescuers first tried to get him out via a rope, then lowered 3 cave experts into the well upside down, but they all failed because the well was too narrow.

The last scenario was to dig a vertical tunnel parallel to the well with a depth of 40 metres, then a continuous horizontal corridor allowing rescuers to reach the boy from below. However, as drilling continued, the boy slipped about 30 meters down the well.

A volunteer was hired, who went to the well after securing it, to realize that the boy had died, but he did not succeed in recovering him, and Alfredo's body was reached a month after his death.

This dramatic story received unprecedented media attention at the time, as television continued to broadcast it without stopping.
