Anyone hoping for a somewhat flattening rate of corona infection in Hesse is wrong: the Hessian health authorities have again reported more new cases overnight than the day before and a large number more than a week ago.

As a result, the seven-day incidence is also significantly higher.

And even more important: The hospitalization incidence as the most important indicator next to the occupancy of the intensive care beds only knows one direction at the moment – further upwards.

It has reached its highest level in weeks.

She even jumped overnight.

The number of corona patients continues to rise in the normal wards, and has largely stagnated in the intensive care units after a slight increase.

All in all, however, it is confirmed that an increasing incidence leads to more patients with a delay.

The virus variant Omicron, which is spreading more and more, is now also shaping everyday life in Hessian clinics.

At the privatized university hospital in Gießen and Marburg, it says with regard to the question of how many of the corona patients cared for there are infected with omicron: "Omicron is the dominant variant - we now assume 100 percent." The large hospital is currently caring for 38 Covid patients, 17 in intensive care units and 21 in normal wards.

The Uni-Klinikum Frankfurt, on the other hand, does not count the patients.

However, a spokesman said: “The level of the number of Covid 19 cases in the Frankfurt University Hospital largely reflects the situation in Hesse.

The omicron variant is dominant.”

Offenbach has replaced Frankfurt at the top of the incidence table and is now ahead of Wiesbaden.

Then comes Frankfurt.

All are above the 2000 mark. Three counties are below the 1000 mark, up from just one.

For Hesse, there are now 1621 new positive PCR tests, so-called cases, recorded within a week in the statistics of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) after 1285 a week ago.

This is a new high.

The federal average is 1349 and the trend is rising.

Advice on vaccine side effects

The number of cases reported overnight by the Hessian health authorities has never been higher: 20,393 cases are in the statistics after 17,635 seven days ago.

14 other deaths are officially to be mourned in connection with Covid-19, a week ago the Ministry of Social Affairs reported seven deaths.

In the middle of the week, the state nevertheless announced that it would overturn the 2-G obligation in retail, for example, after a judgment in Frankfurt.

Since the corona pandemic is not over yet, we must continue to act cautiously, said Prime Minister Volker Bouffier.

Wearing FFP2 masks should be mandatory.

This commentary by Carsten Knop explains why 2G has damaged retail and why a relaxation perspective is needed.

Almost 80 people have submitted an application to the Gießen regional council for the recognition of long-term vaccination effects and corresponding compensation.

So far, however, no application has been granted.

Traffic jam resolved during data transmission to RKI?

Offenbach now has an incidence of 2414 after 2215 the day before, for Wiesbaden there are 2332 after 2275 on the RKI homepage.

Finally, Frankfurt comes in at 2369 after 2415. Only seven Berlin city districts, cities and rural districts in Germany have higher index numbers than Offenbach, with Frankfurt and Wiesbaden following closely behind.

Another thing to consider is that Frankfurt and Wiesbaden had reported different problems with data collection and transmission to the RKI a few days ago.

The head of the Frankfurt health department said that the incidence in the city was noticeably higher than noted by the Berlin institute.

The extent to which the traffic jam in data transmission has been resolved remains to be seen.

Apart from the Werra-Meißner district, which has recorded an increasing incidence,

58 percent of people over the age of twelve are boosted

The hospitalization incidence has risen from about 3.5 to more than nearly seven since early January, from 6.17 the previous day.

It reflects the new admissions of corona patients among 100,000 inhabitants recorded within seven days.

There are currently 1178 corona patients in normal wards.

A week ago there were a total of 909. Among these people are those who did not come to the clinic because of Corona, but who tested positive there and have to be isolated.

Unlike the days before, the Ministry of Social Affairs reported more Covid patients in intensive care units on Wednesday and Thursday.

There are currently 216 after 202 a week ago and 222 the day before.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, 63.5 percent of the patients with Covid-19 treated in Hessian intensive care units are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, while 31.5 percent are fully vaccinated.

The vaccination status is unknown for five percent.

2.8 percent of the Hessian population are considered to be fully vaccinated against Corona.

For those over the age of twelve it is 81.3 percent and 57.9 percent are boosted.
