A 43-year-old man was tried in his absence by the criminal court of Avignon (Vaucluse), Tuesday, for drunk driving and under narcotics, death threats, endangerment and contempt.

The police had been called to intervene with a driver who was swerving to crush pedestrians.

Arrested by the police, he assured that it was not he who was driving.

This man, well known to justice with 16 mentions on his criminal record, had an alcohol level of 0.56 mg per liter of exhaled air.

He then allegedly attacked the police, insulting and threatening them.

The man was found guilty as charged and sentenced to a driving license suspension.

He will also have to compensate the two police officers.
