"Save lives, abolish farms", "Wash your hands stained with blood", "Speciesism, deadly virus"... These are the types of messages that several breeders in the West of France have found tagged on the walls of their farms in recent months. This Friday, nine animal rights activists, aged 21 to 41, will be tried before the Le Mans court for a dozen acts of defamation, damage or destruction of property, committed over the past two years. These anti-speciesists, three women and six men, are also accused of "participation in a criminal association".

The hearing, which should last all day, will come back to these various intrusions, which took place mainly at night. On December 31, 2019, several of the defendants had, for example, targeted the operation of Etienne Fourmont, a dairy cow breeder from Sarthe but also a Youtube star. "They came into my house while I was celebrating with my family," recalls the farmer. I noticed it the next day when I discovered this tag: 2020 abolition. It is a traumatic experience, very violent on a psychological level. I had already been confronted with threats on social networks, but here we are taking a step. It has to stop before it escalates. »

After that night, the little band would have multiplied operations of this type.

Héric, Casson... The reports became more numerous, relayed by the FNSEA which then asked for more protection.

In April 2021, seven lambs were completely stolen from a farm in Eure.

On a video filmed by the activities themselves, we see individuals dressed in black seizing the animals and loading them into the trunk of a car.

The farmer victim will be on the bench of the civil parties, this Friday, alongside in particular the FNSEA and some of its local branches.

“Justice seeks to criminalize animalists”

On the side of the defendants, we denounce a “political trial”. Vincent Aubry, who reports having acted as a "whistleblower" to "save lives", believes that "justice seeks to criminalize animalists". "Since the end of 2019 and the announcement of the creation of the Demeter cell, it was clear that animalists would become a priority target of the government and therefore of repression", indicates the founder of the Animal1st collective, referring to this gendarmerie cell set up in place in 2020, after an increase in attacks on the agricultural world.

In an email sent to the press, another defendant, Alizée D., also denounces .

The one who presents herself as “the lawyer for billions of animals without a lawyer” reports having already been sentenced to a suspended sentence in 2019 “for having released turkeys, pigs and hens”.

This time, firm prison sentences could be imposed, while several defendants are under a suspended sentence.

A demonstration of support for the activists must take place in front of the court, from 8 am.

The FNSEA announces for its part the arrival of its president, Christiane Lambert.
