“The Foreign Office is expected to announce the tightening of the sanctions regime on Monday in Parliament,” the agency said in a statement.

According to the source, the purpose of such sanctions is to initiate a "strike against the strategic and financial interests of Russia."

It is noted that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will soon consider the "options for containment" of Russia proposed by the country's Ministry of Defense in connection with the situation around Ukraine, including the deployment of NATO military forces.

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced the development of a bill to tighten sanctions against Russia.

Prior to this, Johnson said that Western-prepared sanctions against Russia if Russian troops invaded Ukraine would be "the heaviest."

In turn, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that the threats of new sanctions from the West have nothing to do with real politics.
