“Detracting from the decisive contribution of the USSR to the defeat of Nazism and the exclusion of our country from the number of winners in World War II has become a common practice,” Antonov wrote.

He recalled that the authorities of the United States and other Western powers for a long time refused to recognize the deadly threat posed by Nazism.

“At the same time, Americans still cherish the memory of the camaraderie between our countries during World War II,” Antonov said.

He expressed the hope that the memory of this cooperation will help build true partnership between Russian-American relations in the fight against modern challenges and threats.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during negotiations with German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, proposed creating a memorial in Berlin dedicated to the civilian victims of Nazism in the USSR.
