When Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson held a press conference late on Wednesday afternoon, she emphasized the seriousness of the deteriorating security policy situation in Sweden's immediate area.

Sweden can never accept the far-reaching demands made by Russia, the Prime Minister said.

At the same time, Russian military construction continues along the border with Ukraine.

Analysts warn that a war is drawing closer while diplomatic efforts continue to resolve the conflict.

Hard criticism of the government

Sweden's security policy line remains unchanged, the Prime Minister emphasized and at the same time emphasized the importance of information and dialogue with other parties in the Riksdag.

All to create stability around Sweden's actions.

In recent times, the opposition parties on the right have sharply criticized the government, which is not meant for any dialogue with the Riksdag.

There is also a majority in the Riksdag to convene the Defense Committee, a forum for consultations and consultations between the Government and the Riksdag on issues relating to defense and security policy.

So far, the government has rejected this proposal.

Probably because they want to avoid a situation where different parliamentary parties want to trump the government with new investments in the defense.

Instead, the government wants to maintain its freedom of action and make the reinforcements it deems appropriate after consultation with the Armed Forces.

Obviously not happy

At today's meeting, the Prime Minister proposed that a new group with representatives of the parliamentary parties be convened.

Such a group will discuss an update of the national security strategy.

The National Security Strategy is a public document that addresses a number of different types of threats, such as terrorism, military threats, climate threats and energy supply.

The current strategy was presented in 2017 and will now be updated.

It is around this update that the Prime Minister now wants talks with the opposition.

But obviously the opposition does not want to settle for this.

After the meeting on Wednesday, several party leaders maintained their previous demands to convene the Defense Committee quickly.

One purpose of this is to investigate whether the defense needs further reinforcements in the current situation.

At the subsequent press conference, the Prime Minister did not sound as dismissive of this as, among others, the Minister of Defense before.

However, she also pointed out other forums where this type of issue can be discussed, such as the Foreign Affairs Committee and the parliamentary committees.

Magdalena Andersson's statements on Wednesday can, however, be interpreted as meaning that the government is prepared to turn the issue around.

And the question is, of course, how long the government can withstand a parliamentary majority in a situation where the Prime Minister himself emphasizes the importance of talks and dialogue.
