On Tuesday, IF Metall's federal board decided to remove SSAB from Luleå's union chairman Ulf Karlström, who was recently elected chairman of IF Metall's pig iron department at the steelworks.

As an active SD politician, Karlström should not even have been able to be elected as union chairman, IF Metall believes.

The decision to poke Karlström is heavily criticized by the Sweden Democrats.

The party writes in a post on Facebook that it is "an undemocratic disaster".

- Just because he has the wrong party book, he gets rid of the assignment and I think that is completely wrong, says Magnus Persson to SVT.

- The Sweden Democrats want the unions to be apolitical.

It must be the commitment of the members that must be decisive when choosing a safety representative or union representative, says Persson.

Åkesson: "Scandalous"

SD's party leader Jimmie Åkesson is also very critical.

"A completely senseless and scandalous action from the trade unionists in Stockholm", he writes in a post on Facebook.

Previously, a truck driver with assignments for SD was excluded from the Transport Workers' Union because Transport considered that the political commitment was not compatible with membership.

Last year, the Stockholm District Court ruled in favor of the driver.

Will be supported by the party

However, the case of Ulf Karlström is not about exclusion from the union.

Magnus Persson says that he has not yet been in contact with Ulf Karlström after the decision, but says that the party will support Karlström if he wants to pursue the issue further.

- We will see how this lands, it depends on how the person concerned chooses to handle it, whether he chooses to take the fight or chooses to step down and continue with his political commitment, says Magnus Persson.
