Settlement attacks in the neighborhoods and towns of the Holy City of Jerusalem are expanding without limits to stop them, and in order to tighten their full grip, the settlement associations in the Holy City have begun to recruit settlers into an independent body, as a means to intensify attacks against the Jerusalemite population, and make the specter of annexation hang over their homes and lands.
According to the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, the settlement associations operate independently, similar to the work of the intelligence services, as they recruit settlers trained to carry weapons for a fee, in order to guard and occupy the looted properties in the Holy City, until settlement families are settled there.
The Holy City is witnessing an escalating activity by the settlement associations, led by Elad and Ateret Cohanim, in order to carry out robberies of Jerusalemites’ homes and property in the Old City and expel them from it, just as it is happening in the towns of Silwan and Jabal Mukaber, and the neighborhoods of Sheikh Jarrah and Batn al-Hawa.

Palestinian lawyer Medhat Diba, who specializes in defending the homes of Jerusalemites who are looted and threatened with demolition, inside the corridors of the occupation courts, shows that settlement associations choose settler recruits and train them to carry weapons since the age of 18, and they often participate in special units that have direct and permanent contact with the Palestinians. The Palestinian lawyer points out that the occupation adopted the conscription of settlers six years ago, when it allowed the settlers who attacked the police forces at the moment of evacuating some settlements and random outposts to integrate them into the special units of the Israeli army in order to carry out attacks against the Palestinians, inside their towns and villages.
He points out that the participation of settlers in the front lines of the attack on Jerusalemites is a great danger targeting their presence inside their homes and the neighborhoods in which they have lived for thousands of years, and forcing them to forcibly displace.

On the other hand, the specialist in Jerusalem affairs, Jerusalem lawyer Khaled Zabarka, confirms that the special occupation procedure in the case of settlers’ recruitment and training on weapons was witnessed in several neighborhoods in the Holy City, and during practices and incidents against citizens, with the aim of highlighting and intensifying their attacks against the indigenous population and their homes.
He explains that the recruitment of settlers comes in order to tighten the grip of the settlements and tighten the siege imposed on the necks of the Jerusalemites, in order to forcibly displace them.
Zabarka continues: "The settlements perched on the lands of Palestinian cities and towns embrace armed Israeli groups (militias), who have trained in weapons and carry out settlement missions in order to play the role of the Zionist scheme, and to pass the settlement project in the Holy City, known as (Greater Jerusalem) on the ground."
The specialist in the affairs of the Holy City points out that the settlement associations are working under the cover of the occupation government in order to dispossess the homes and land that have been owned by the Palestinians for thousands of years, and to implement the plans of the occupation settlement projects.
