On the side of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, it is always a firm no to the popular primary on the left.

“70 days from the first round there are better things to do than an obscure primary,” the presidential candidate declared on Monday at the opening of his meeting in Bordeaux.

This consultation aimed at pushing for the union, organized by a citizens' movement, recorded the registration of 467,000 people for its online vote which will be organized from Thursday to Sunday.

Problem: Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Yannick Jadot and Anne Hidalgo, the three main candidates on the left, refuse to submit to this process

Taubira accepts the initiative

“Obscure tricks to agree or bring a rabbit out of the hat”, launched Jean-Luc Mélenchon in reference to a possible victory of Christiane Taubira, the only main candidate to recognize this vote.

"It's normal that there is resistance to what we are preparing, you don't have to be sorry," he added to the audience at the Théâtre Fémina, 3,000 people according to LFI.

"This shows that we are on the right path," he said, after two previous meetings with several thousand people.

"It was impossible to lead a union at the top, because so many times deceived, rolled in flour by agreements which resulted in small arrangements", explained the deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône, for whom "the union by the base, it can only be done in clarity”.

And to conclude: "I won't say one more word of criticism, but let us work and honor our ability to mobilize ourselves".

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is credited with 7 to 12% in the polls, but within a left split into five candidacies, cannot compete for the moment with the rights and Emmanuel Macron.

Without being unanimous on the left, the popular primary nevertheless reaches 467,000 registered
