7 migrants were discovered in good health on Friday in the trailer of a refrigerated truck on the A16 motorway in Grande-Synthe, in the North.
It was the driver of the heavy goods vehicle who reported their presence, we learned on Monday from a police source and from the prosecution.
The police found around 11 p.m. seven Iraqis, including a family with a 14-year-old child, hidden in the load of the refrigerated truck.
They were "all in good health", despite a temperature of around -25 degrees, it was explained to the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of the North, confirming information from the
Voice of the North
.
Driver cleared
The driver, who had called the police after hearing a noise, was taken into custody but quickly put "out of the question", added the public prosecutor of Dunkirk, Sébastien Piève.
According to the first elements of the investigation, entrusted to the border police, the migrants would have boarded the truck without the knowledge of the driver during "a break he had made in Belgium".
Without his quick reaction, "the situation could have been much more serious", underlined the magistrate.
