From presiding over bullfights at the Fuengirola fair to leading the first animal

lobby

in a regional parliament. From being

photographed with Curro Romero,

Ortega Cano and Manzanares to vindicating Pacma's tweets. From collaborating in bullfights with the City Council when she was mayor to sharing a parliamentary association with deputies who believe that "riding a horse is a form of exploitation." Six a priori contradictory scenes that, however, have the same protagonist: the vice president of the PP in the Andalusian parliament, Esperanza Oña.

Oña has surprised the regional chamber with the creation of Prodia

(acronym for Animal Protection and Dignity) which defines itself as "a non-partisan transversal group in parliament" that aims to "defend the rights of animals" and "generate changes cultural and social", according to its founding document.

An initiative that

comes at a delicate political moment

: in the death throes of the Andalusian legislature, with elections in Castilla y León and with the heated debate of the macro-farms. Thus, Prodia has triggered the alarms of bullfighting and hunters, who in Andalusia alone have 85,000 licences. Two groups that are a notable fishing ground for votes for the PP, which won the 2018 regional elections with a favorable program for hunting and bullfighting.

However, during the presentation of Prodia, Oña resorted to dialectical feints to avoid pronouncing the words "bulls" or "macrofarms" and the most lapidary phrases of the popular were

"if we are defending the rights of animals, you can imagine"

and "One reason can't be tradition, because then things would never change."

Together with Oña -who, in addition to being a deputy and mayor for Fuengirola, has held different organic positions in the PP as Head of Health and Families-, Prodia has Luz Marina Dorado from Adelante Andalucía, who

assured that "riding a horse is a form of exploitation of the state"

in a parliamentary debate and Javier Pareja, training veterinarian of the Ciudadanos party.

In contrast to the media attention they have aroused,

omertá now prevails in the group and both Oña

, Dorado and Pareja have refused to answer LOC's questions.

On the other hand, the PP has spoken.

Party sources assure that Oñá "has acted in this case in a private capacity"

and recall that his party "is not integrated into any association against hunting and bullfighting and is not going to present any initiative against" for a matter of " coherence with its electoral program and government action".

Ona's fellow animal supporters are at their ideological antipodes. Something that, according to what they confess to LOC, has surprised councilors who confronted her from the opposition in Fuengirola. They remember "his authoritarianism inside and outside the plenary sessions" and episodes such as

the suspension of employment and salary to a local policeman for wearing a ponytail

or statements such as "the Andalusian countryside was better with Franco", than at the time of Griñan.

"Her animalism in Fuengirola was only defending the dog.

She created a day for this animal and even made it coincide with

Republic Day

. Meanwhile, she presided over bullfights, reopened the bullring and there are the bullfighting posters in which the City council appeared like collaborator", summarize sources of IU.

An episode that the socialists also reproach him for, while recalling that "

he did nothing to fight against animal abuse

, achieve zero sacrifice or modernize the ordinance."

However, Oña has gotten wet in the past on the bulls.

In an article entitled

Identity Cruelty

(now deleted from the internet, but whose content is preserved)

he compared bullfights and abortion to criticize the Catalan independence movement

.

An article in which he assured that "bulls suffer and bullfights are prohibited in Catalonia", but that "human fetuses suffer and abortion is allowed".

Even so, this animalist initiative in the autonomous parliament could have its days numbered.

Juanma Moreno is considering dissolving the courts in February

and calling elections.

A scenario that would force the election of new deputies.
