"We have information indicating that the Russian government is considering the possibility of installing a pro - Russian leader in Kiev, while considering whether to invade and occupy Ukraine," the British Foreign Office wrote in a press release.

According to the United Kingdom, former Ukrainian parliamentarian Yevheniy Murayev is being considered as a potential candidate.

Murayev represents a less pro-Russian party that failed to pass the blockade to take a seat in parliament in the 2019 elections.

The former Prime Minister is mentioned

A number of other names are mentioned by the British, among them the former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

He held the post of Prime Minister when Viktor Yanukovych was President of Ukraine.

Both fled to Russia in connection with the protests and the uprising in 2014.

The information from the United Kingdom does not state in what way Moscow intends to install a pro-Russian government.

The allegations from London are based on intelligence information and no evidence is presented.

Foreign Minister Liz Truss states, however, that "the information sheds light on the extent to which Russian activity is intended to undermine Ukraine and it provides an insight into the Kremlin's thinking".
