The
former socialist councilor
in the
Granada City Council José Miguel Castillo Higueras
has died this Sunday as a result of the blow he suffered during a robbery recorded this morning on a street in the center of this Andalusian capital.
According to sources from the National Police, which has taken charge of the investigation, the event has been recorded around 8:00 am this Sunday on San Antón street in Granada.
In this central environment, the former councilor has been assaulted as
a victim of a robbery
and has received a blow that has made him fall to the ground.
In that fall he has suffered injuries that have caused his death already in the hospital to which he has been evacuated from the emergency room.
The same sources have specified that
at the moment there are no detainees
and that the investigation is still active to identify and arrest the person or persons responsible, who will also be charged with a possible crime of reckless homicide.
Castillo Higueras was a councilor of the Granada City Council for twelve years, between 1980 and 1992, responsible for the current protocol and calendar of local festivals and a promoter of traditions such as San Cecilio or La Tarasca.
The mayor of Granada, Francisco Cuenca (PSOE), has sent his condolences to the family and in a message on Twitter has highlighted that he was a "key man" in the first steps of the city's democratic life.
