David Pla, the last head of the terrorist organization ETA, has joined as head of the strategic orientation framework of Sortu, the party promoted by the nationalist left

after

the banning of Herri Batasuna. Pla, who also took part in the negotiations with the government of Rodríguez Zapatero and read the statement on the end of the gang in 2011, will form part of an executive that intends to defeat the PNV at the polls within a process of "national liberation" in the which calls for the creation of a "state". 89% of the members of Sortu have endorsed their incorporation into the party's leadership.

Dozens of ikurriñas and flags of Navarra waving in the stands of the Bizkaia fronton have accompanied the applause for the revamped direction of Sortu.

Secretary General Arkaitz Rodríguez began his speech with a reference to the ETA prisoners, congratulating himself because there are no longer any prisoners of the gang in the first degree and because there are approaches to Basque prisons, but he has demanded a "comprehensive and definitive solution to the question of the prisoners".

Rodríguez also recalled the commitment made in the so-called Aite declaration on October 18: "the victims, all the victims, must be recognized and repaired".

Sortu, founding party of EH Bildu together with Eusko Alkartasuna and Alternatiba, has closed its third congress with an unequivocal commitment to institutional participation and with the aim of expanding electoral support for the nationalist coalition led by Arnaldo Otegi, present at this event in in which 800 members and guests have participated.

"Euskal Herria is a nation and it must be able to freely and democratically decide its future," Rodríguez stated, calling on his affiliates to continue in a process of "national liberation" both in the institutions and in the streets.

Sortu continues betting on EH Bildu as the political instrument to become a political alternative to the PNV in Euskadi and Navarra. "A broad sovereignist and progressive front that leads this country towards a future of sovereignty and social justice", claimed Rodríguez, a Basque parliamentarian and representative of a generation that replaces historical figures of the nationalist left such as Rufi Etxebarria or Rafa Díez Usabiaga who will not continue at Sortu's address after this congress.

The Basque nationalist left intends to make its "revolution" from "undertaking concrete proposals and struggles capable of improving the working and living conditions of the social majority here and now", Rodríguez has ratified Sortu's frontal opposition to the labor reform agreed by the Vice President Yolanda Díaz, the unions and the CEO. The leader of Sortu has described the content of the decree that must be validated by Congress as a "shameful attempt to perpetuate the labor reform of the PP."

Over the next four years, Sortu will develop the content of her Herrigaria paper, in which the independence objective is maintained as an instrument to activate social transformations. "The revolution requires defending the right to self-determination and the sovereignty of the peoples as synonymous with political capacity to be able to carry out a profound social transformation," Rodríguez stressed.

The leader of the Basque nationalist left

has

taken it for granted that, as the electoral polls indicate, EH Bildu will grow in electoral support in the next electoral cycle in the years 2023 and 2024 with local and regional elections.

"We make a clear bet that EH Bildu governs the largest possible number of institutions, because that is good for the people, it is good for the liberation process", stated Rodríguez who, at the end of his speech, encouraged their leaders and members before the imminent electoral cycle.

"We were not born to resist, not even to respond; we were born to win, and we are going to win," said Rodríguez.
