China hopes that the United Nations will make greater contributions to solving the outstanding difficulties faced by developing countries

Geng Shuang, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, spoke at Secretary-General Guterres' briefing on the priorities of the United Nations in 2022 on the 21st, hoping that the United Nations will make greater contributions to solving the outstanding difficulties faced by developing countries.

Geng Shuang said that the current COVID-19 epidemic has repeatedly delayed, post-epidemic recovery is difficult, poverty reduction achievements are under threat, the development gap continues to widen, and the global development process is severely impacted.

China hopes that the United Nations will actively respond to the expectations of member states in its work this year, and especially make greater contributions to solving the outstanding difficulties faced by developing countries.

The first is to practice genuine multilateralism.

Engaging in protectionism and unilateralism will only harm others.

Spreading hatred and prejudice, inciting ideological confrontation, and curbing the economic and technological development of other countries will only provoke confrontation and divide the world.

The second is to work together to deal with the epidemic.

It is necessary to expand cooperation in vaccine production and drug research and development, ensure fair distribution of vaccines, speed up the promotion of vaccination in developing countries, and bridge the "immunization gap".

The third is to adhere to the priority of development.

It is necessary to focus on the urgent needs of developing countries in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on promoting cooperation in poverty reduction, connectivity, food security, green development, digital economy and other fields, safeguarding and improving people's livelihood during development, and protecting and promoting human rights , so that the fruits of development are shared by the people.

Fourth, adhere to green reconstruction.

It is necessary to adhere to the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities", promote international cooperation on climate change within the development framework, and implement the outcomes of the Glasgow Climate Change Conference.

Developed economies should take the lead in fulfilling their emission reduction responsibilities, implement their commitments on financial and technical support, and create necessary conditions for developing countries to tackle climate change and achieve sustainable development.

Geng Shuang said that China welcomes the report submitted by Secretary-General Guterres, agrees with his consideration on the priorities of this year's work, and will support his work as always.

China believes that under the leadership of Secretary-General Guterres, the United Nations will practice multilateralism, build international consensus, respond to global challenges, and play a greater role in promoting the cause of human peace and development.
