Hailed, mocked, loved and hated.

Silvio Berlusconi has been elected Italian Prime Minister no less than three times.

Despite accusations of buying sex, bribery and tax evasion, he has managed to return to the country's political peak over and over again.

Berlusconi has been involved in 36 lawsuits, says Jennifer Wegerup.

A conviction for tax offenses has prevented him from holding public office - until now.

- He sees this as an opportunity to get revenge, says Wegerup.

"His followers love him"

In Sweden, Berlusconi is often portrayed as a clown and a filthy old man, but in Italy the picture is more complex, says Jennifer Wegerup.

- Some of him are incredibly inappropriate and clumsy jokes - among a bit racist, often sexist.

It is part of reality, but not the whole.

He has a great charisma and a winning charisma.

Those who are his followers love him, she says.

Berlusconi has many friends in the corridors of power.

It is not the people but the parliament that votes for the country's president.

It is therefore not impossible for Silvio Berlusconi to become President of Italy, says Jennifer Wegerup.
