The timing of the transition still pending.

The national dialogue is expected, but its organization is falling behind because, before that, in order to be as inclusive as possible, a pre-dialogue must take place with the politico-military groups.

It is to be held soon in Qatar, but preparations for this meeting are stretching.

This week, the representatives of these groups met in Rome for a “symposium on the future of Chad” under the aegis of the Sant'Egidio community, in order to propose a “

contribution

” to this pre-dialogue.

"

Everyone was there

" for three days in Rome, according to a Sant'Egidio official, satisfied with the success of the invitation.

It was about listing the topics and how to address them during the pre-dialogue.

But also to display a form of unity before the meeting in Qatar despite the differences between these groups of disparate importance.

In the concluding communiqué, the participants reiterated their "

peace offer to the Transitional Military Council

" and their support for "

sincere and transparent negotiations

".

If the transitional Chadian government says it was not aware of this Roman stage, Sant'Egidio assures that discussions had taken place upstream with the authorities of Ndjamena, with the Special Technical Committee headed by ex-president Goukouni Weddeye and in charge of the pre-dialogue, as well as with the Qatari authorities.

And that feedback will be given to them on the conclusions of this conference.

The Catholic community Sant'Egidio speaks of a "

contribution

" to the ongoing transition in Chad, where it has offered to share its "

expertise

" in mediation.

For example, it has been active for several years in the Central African Republic.

The date of the pre-dialogue has still not been officially announced.

It was hoped for the end of January, in order to be able to open the inclusive national dialogue in mid-February, but the disagreements on its organization remain numerous, and the calendar should still lengthen.
