On Tuesday, Växjö municipality issued a call to parents of young children to keep their children at home from preschools due to a very strained staff situation.
In return, the families would receive a refund of the fee for preschool and leisure time.
"Enormous response"
On Thursday morning, more than 600 reports of abolished fees had been received.
- It is a huge response in just a few days, which exceeds my expectations, says Ida Eriksson (M), chair of the education committee in Växjö municipality.
The purpose of the measure is to be able to keep the preschools open to the families who really need it, according to Växjö municipality.
- I have no opportunity to be away from my job for a little longer.
We simply need preschool, says Sofie Lind, parent of small children.
The offer is valid until week 7 and registration is made for one week at a time.
