A huge agricultural building with an area of 2,500 m² caught fire on Tuesday at Sundhouse Bas-Rhin, about forty kilometers south of Strasbourg.
Warned by a neighbor who had seen the thick smoke, the firefighters were quickly able to intervene.
In number since 39 firefighters were mobilized to contain the fire.
“The fire was quickly brought under control,” writes the Bas-Rhin Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) in a press release.
But inside the building, the 20,000 rabbits could not be saved and died, in particular due to smoke poisoning from the fire.
