• Security X-ray of the squatting in Madrid

The Community of Madrid's anti-squatting telephone number may start ringing at the end of February or the beginning of March.

The regional government is already finalizing the details for the launch of a new public service that will be attended by a staff of

16 municipal police officers

from different municipalities that will cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as EL MUNDO has learned. .

The first seven local agents who will answer the calls will previously receive a specific training course on the matter and the idea is that the rest of their colleagues will be incorporated progressively throughout 2022. The estimated cost of this measure is

700,000 euros per year

, which will be allocated almost entirely to payroll, since the office will be located within the operations center of the Security and Emergency Agency, in Pozuelo de Alarcón.

To be able to contact

112 anti-squatting

-which is the name of the service- you have to dial precisely that same telephone number.

"The fundamental objective is to provide advice and help to citizens who may be affected in their property rights as a result of these illegal acts," explains the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and the Interior, Enrique López.

Among the functions of the staff will be that of "improving

information and coordination

with all State security forces and bodies" when complaints are reported.

This joint work can be done in person since these professionals will be located together with members of the National Police and the Civil Guard.

A specific example of actions that will be promoted are

immediate interventions

in the event of a usurpation of a property that is taking place or has taken place in a period of less than 24 hours, since "sometimes they are crucial moments and key to being able to avoid them" , specifies a spokesman for the regional executive.

According to data from the Community of Madrid, there are currently

between 4,000 and 4,500 squatted properties

in the region : around 2,000 are public flats belonging to the Social Housing Agency and the rest correspond to individuals or private entities, such as banks.

In the Government Delegation, they point out that the exact figure is difficult to calculate, among other reasons, because

there are no homogeneous criteria

on the part of the security forces that notify this type of crime.

In 2020 alone, the Civil Guard registered 1,043 usurpations and the National Police another 1,025, from which the properties that were recovered through launches or interventions by agents should be discounted.

Legal guidance

In the phone created

ad hoc

to combat squatting in the Community of Madrid -a measure announced in September 2020 that is materializing now- those affected will also be explained where and how to report it.

In addition,

legal guidance and advice

on how to start or speed up the eviction will be offered.

One of the peculiarities of this free service for users is that the agents in charge of this service will have immediate

online

access to

the Land Registry by

signing an agreement. Thus, it will be possible to know "who is the true owner in a process of vacating and avoid misunderstandings or confusion that slow down or hinder the process."

"We are a community that understands that the best way to respect and protect property is to ensure that it is not affected by illegal acts," says the Madrid Minister for the Presidency, Justice and the Interior.

"The best way to put real estate on the market is

to ensure the owner its prompt recovery

in the event of an illegal act of any nature, either due to illegal occupation or non-payment of rent," he concludes.
