A notice board addressed to the managers, which currently has around fifty signatures, has been hanging on a notice board in maternity ward 308 at Östra Hospital.

There, the assistant nurses at the ward describe how they experience the situation, and why they should also at times, just like the midwives, receive extra compensation when, for example, they take passes to fill in gaps in the schedule.

But so far they have not been heard.

- We feel disappointed, we probably had in this frustration a hope that the management, the managers, would see our efforts and reward us and compensate us, as the midwives have been compensated, says Cecilia Borsand, who at the time of the interview was in home quarantine, when she himself fell ill with covid.

"Feeling insignificant"

In the neonatal ward, among other places, assistant nurses receive extra compensation in January when they go in and fill gaps urgently.

And Cecilia Borsand believes that there are more examples of assistant nurses who have received bonuses.

- So there is money.

We feel insignificant, not as important.

It creates sadness and you lose a lot of job satisfaction.

300 percent in surcharges around Christmas

The midwives at the current maternity ward at Östra Hospital received 300 percent in overtime pay for extra shifts around Christmas and New Year.

But at present there are no plans for the assistant nurses to receive similar salary increases.

Instead, efforts are being made to recruit more assistant nurses to the business.

- It is a decision taken higher up in the organization.

Recruitment is underway right now and we see great interest, which is gratifying.

And based on the fact that we will create a better working environment and a good staff, it is not relevant with compensation for extra shifts for the assistant nurses, says Kajsa Caderoth, head of the care unit at the birth at Östra Hospital.
