The reasonably good news for Hesse's largest city first: after days of sharp increases, the seven-day incidence in Frankfurt has fallen slightly.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, it is 1172 after 1220 the day before.

A week ago, this indicator was only 666.5.

So there can be no talk of relaxation.

Because: Currently, only six cities or large urban districts have more new corona cases recorded within a week than Frankfurt am Main.

In second place in Hesse is the state capital Wiesbaden with 1002 new infections among 100,000 inhabitants within a week after 919 before the Hochtaunus with 979 after 971.

All of the high numbers have to do with the spread of the omicron variant, including by travelers returning. It is considered to be even more contagious than the previously dominant Delta variant. Mainz, the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine, has 739.

The increase in hospitalization rates is also noticeable. In addition to the occupancy of intensive care beds with Covid patients, it is one of the two benchmarks for corona policy and climbed from 3.16 to 3.73 overnight. The hospitalization index is also higher than a week ago, having previously trended downward and then stagnated. It reflects the number of corona patients among 100,000 inhabitants admitted to clinics within a week. Since the beginning of the pandemic, an increased seven-day incidence has regularly resulted in more Covid patients in hospitals with a delay of one to two weeks.

The Hessian health authorities reported 8,461 new cases overnight, after 6,660 a week ago. 21 deaths related to Covid-19 have been added. Seven days ago, the Ministry of Social Affairs had reported twelve.

The Hesse incidence is almost 695 after 417.6 seven days ago. According to the Corona Bulletin of the Ministry of Social Affairs, almost all of Hesse is now a hotspot. The districts of Kassel and Schwalm-Eder also belong to this district from Thursday. Only the Werra-Meißner district is left out. It's almost 100 below the 350 incidence. That's the crucial mark. If a region is three days above that, it is classified as a hotspot from the next day. Then further protective rules apply, such as the obligation to wear masks in particularly occupied places in public and a ban on alcohol in the fresh air. After five days below the limit, the region falls out of the regulation again.

The situation in the clinics has eased somewhat overnight.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, 706 people with corona, including 98 suspected cases, were in normal wards, almost 70 more than a week ago.

220 Covid patients are looked after by the forces in intensive care units, 23 fewer than reported on January 12th.

According to the ministry, 64.6 percent of the corona patients treated in Hessian intensive care units are not vaccinated or not sufficiently vaccinated.

That is 0.7 percentage points less than a week ago.

30.7 percent are fully vaccinated, 2.4 percentage points more.

Overall, however, the values have been stagnating at this level for weeks.

According to the RKI, 71.4 percent of the Hessian population is fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2.

"If only the age group from 12 years is taken into account, the fully immunized proportion is 80.2 percent," according to the ministry.

This also means stagnation despite all special vaccination campaigns throughout Hesse.
