In October, the Culture and Leisure Committee in Karlskrona voted through the proposal to build new premises for the cultural school in Karlskrona in Handelshamnen.

The proposal had then been postponed or lifted from the agenda on several occasions, including after criticism from Sophia Ahlin (M), second vice chair of the committee, that there was no basis for the decision - especially regarding dialogue with local landlords.

Want to see cultural quarters

When the proposal has now reached the Municipal Executive Board, the criticism from the political opposition has led to a decision to review several alternatives for solutions.

As criticism of the previous proposal, the Opposition Council highlights, among other things, that there was no valid detailed plan, a feared need for redevelopment and uncertain cost proposals.

- We want to see a cultural district around the square, where the existing state library could be one of the main arenas for a future cultural school.

We also hope that the cultural school can grow throughout the municipality, something we have also heard about before the new data that is being produced now, says Camilla Brunsberg (M), Opposition Councilor.

"Sad that we have not come any further"

Municipal councilor Börje Dovstad (L) is positive to the proposal for an investment in a cultural district.

- Now we will give the municipal director the task of looking more closely at this and come back with a proposal.

It is important that the decision we make has as deep a political foundation as possible.

That is why we have had group leader deliberations, he says.

Sandra Bizzozero (S), chair of the municipal board, regrets that the case is delayed.

- It is sad that we have not come any further, but we govern in the minority and need to have several parties with us to come up with proposals, she says.
