He noted that at the moment there is no significant decrease in the number of “ransomware attacks”.

Skulkin also stated that the REvil hackers have not been active over the past few months.

“At the same time, the current situation may have a negative impact on Russian companies - Russian-speaking cybercriminals can attack them more actively,” he said.

Skulkin also admitted that cybercriminals may temporarily have problems after the arrest of REvil.

“Of course, they may have difficulty cashing out funds obtained illegally,” he said.

He did not rule out that some of the hackers will stop their activities for a while.

On January 15, a court in Moscow arrested eight suspects in the case of the REvil hacker group.

As reported by the FSB, members of the REvil group were engaged in stealing money using malware. 

The basis for the search activities was the appeal of the competent authorities of the United States.
