A black diamond, believed to have come from space a billion years ago, is up for auction.

Sotheby's, a world-renowned auctioneer, announced that a diamond with the name 'The Enigma', which means enigma, will be auctioned off online on the 3rd of next month.

The 555.55 carat diamond has been in the custody of its anonymous owner for over 20 years and has never been publicly displayed or sold.

In this auction, the highest bid must be bid unconditionally without a deposit, and the expected bid price is up to 8.1 billion won.

The rare black diamond is said to be formed in the collision between Earth and a meteor.

Sotheby's estimates that Enigma was created in a collision 1 billion years ago.

Inspired by 'hamsa', known as a five-finger palm-shaped amulet in the Middle East, it features 55-sided cuts.

Netizens responded, "A diamond from outer space is twice as mysterious. I want it!", "It just looks like a well-cut stone to my eyes… Am I not too romantic?!"
