The story has made a lot of noise in Mayenne over the past ten days.

The corpse of an impressive snake, about 1.50 m long, was found on January 7 at the edge of a small road in the town of Mézangers, 30 km from Laval.

Passed the collective astonishment, veterinary specialists affirmed that the reptile was a python.

They also estimated that due to its state of decomposition, the animal had not traveled by itself to this road but that it was probably already dead when it was deposited there.

Who could be the owner of such a reptile, whose detention is carefully supervised and subject to prefectural approval?

Very difficult to know, insofar as the snake was not provided with an identification chip, however obligatory.

And there will be no further investigation, reports

Ouest-France

on Monday.

The French Office for Biodiversity, which would have had the legal means to launch a judicial inquiry, decided not to follow up.

Unless there is a surprise, the mystery of the Mayenne python will therefore remain intact.
